Bill Walker’s official portrait is one of the many symbols of change in the coming weeks. It will replace that of Gov. Sean Parnell, whose image has graced just about every state office for the past eight years, if you count his time as both governor and lieutenant governor.
“I want it to be serious, but I also want it to be interesting, just like our state is,” Martinez said. “I want it to be revealing of his character and his personality.”
“It’s very humbling,” said Walker. “You feel the weight of the state on your shoulders a little bit. And I think that’s the way it’s supposed to be, but in a good way.”
Another lesson in politics came from Byron Mallott, the next lieutenant governor. By the time Walker arrived for his shoot, Mallott had already posed for his portrait. Martinez says he was surprised that Mallott showed his sillier side for the camera in order to relax.
“We got some pretty ridiculous stuff with Byron,” Martinez said, as he showed Walker some of the outtakes on his camera’s viewfinder.
