Gov. Bill Walker has named Heidi Drygas as his new labor commissioner, adding another Fairbanksan to a prominent position in his administration.
Drygas, who was born and raised in Fairbanks, has spent nearly a decade as general counsel for the Alaska District Council of Laborers. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Alaska Fairbanks before earning a law degree from Willamette University College of Law.
Along with the Drygas appointment, Walker also announced Darwin Peterson will serve as his legislative director. Peterson has worked in the Legislature for nearly 20 years, most recently as Sen. Bert Stedman’s chief of staff.
