Integrity gets a pass in the political field because too much happens no one ever gets wind of; thus perception reigns.
In this audio file, recorded inadvertently, that ends. The perception glass is broken. The recording is of a surreptitious conversation between Anchorage Assembly candidates, who discuss the foibles around campaign funds.
It reminds me that it might be a Benedict Arnold moment. During the Revolutionary War, only because of a diligent sentry who searched a traveler did a note get discovered revealing Arnold’s plot. Luck or providence? Was the “butt-call” and answering machine combo here, meant to happen?
At the end of the snippet of recording, there’s irony where Coffey says, “Don’t repeat it to anybody.”
