Former Assemblyman Dan Coffey and former Anchorage Rep. Ethan Berkowitz have collected campaign donations from all across the city while Assembly woman Amy Demboski has a near monopoly on cash from the Eagle River/Chugiak district she represents, but few contributions anywhere else, according to a KTUU map that shows where mayoral hopefuls are getting their cash.
The ability to raise money often predicts success at the ballot box, and in the battle for campaign cash, Berkowitz quickly gained ground in a crowded field, with the donations seen here collected in just more than a month of fund-raising.
Former Anchorage Rep. Andrew Halcro, no stranger to playing the wild card in high-profile elections, largely funded his own campaign with few donations from voters, according to records reported through March 6. We’ll be watching for a new round of campaign finance data Tuesday — showing the past three weeks of contributions — that could reveal if the playing field has changed in the crowded race for Anchorage mayor.
Meantime, here’s mayoral money list as of Friday, prior to the arrival of seven-day reports, according to Alaska Public Offices Commission records:
1. Dan Coffey: $276,000 raised to date
2. Andrew Halcro: $104,000
3. Amy Demboski: $88,000
4. Ethan Berkowitz: $62,000
