For almost one hundred years, Alaskans have been shedding their parkas. The Associated Press had reported that the “unusual temperature of the arctic indicates remarkable change [has] taken place in [the] frozen zone,” according to a headline in the Anchorage Daily Times – 93 years ago. Icebergs are growing scarcer and glaciers are disappearing says the report. The archives of Alaskan history confirm that our hundreds of miles of Arctic Ocean shoreland up here will someday be quite valuable beachfront property.
