Alaska Senators Respond to Paris Attack

Alaska Sen. Dan Sullivan said in an interview Friday night that his thoughts and prayers were with the people of Paris and France as a whole.

“What’s happened over there, which is horrendous, is a stark reminder of what we’re all up against, not just in France, but in terms of terrorist activity,” Sullivan said. “The truth is, and I think you see it today, is they hate us for who we are, what we stand for. Democracy, religious freedom, tolerance, equality.”

Sen. Lisa Murkowski echoed Sullivan in a statement released Saturday afternoon.

“The attacks in Paris yesterday are an absolute travesty. Our hearts break for the families of the victims, the wounded still suffering today, and the entire nation of France,” she said. “Today we grieve for the dead, pray for the wounded, and join the people of France in demanding justice in the wake of this atrocity.”

Murkowski said the attacks are a reminder that terrorist groups like the Islamic State can strike at home.
