Commissioner Dean Williams is reallocating resources within the department to begin the state’s first Professional Conduct Unit (PCU) to follow up on internal complaints. He said he’s modeling the new PCU after successful programs found in Wyoming and California, adding that Alaska may be the last state in the union without this kind of internal oversight within the corrections system. “This is a key component to making the department better, safer, more efficient, [and with] better conditions for staff and better conditions for inmates,” said Williams.
